Well it is Thursday, I think, and Toni is on the schedule for surgery today. The orthopedic surgeon is on the ER rotation so hers will be this afternoon sometime after his rotation ends. He specializes in sports medicine so we know he will do his best with her. Toni, for now, is enjoying reading everyone's blogs, but wants us to keep doing the updates. She got into a wheel chair and we took her outside yesterday, but the combination of medicines makes her queasy so we went back in after a brief time in fresh air. While she was up we were also able to wash her hair and get all the knots out. Her hair is back up and she feels much better. She put weight on her left leg and pivoted so she could sit down, that excited her as well. Once the surgery is over she will accomplish much more (the arm scares us all until it is pinned). Her ankle will be casted and non weight bearing for three months, but with a pin in her arm she will soon be able to use crutches. We signed paperwork so she could get her x-rays since she wants to see them, they should be delivered today on a cd. Figured if she was strong enough to see her car she would do ok with the xrays. There is this wonderful nurse named Joe who has taken Toni under his wing and has such a rapport with her she attempts things with courage and determination. I guess we are adopting him (and his english bulldog and three parots). He is a marvelous person who, for some reason was in the ER the night she came in and was her nurse the last two days she was in pediatric ICU. I think he also might have had a hand in the spacious accomodations as well. I am choosing to believe he has a big part to play in her life and we are thankful for his presence. He isn't as annoying to her as we are, LOL. Going to close for now, another long day ahead.

We love you all, keep praying!

  1. Toni,

We have never met before. My father and your father are cousins. We heard about the wreck and immediately began praying for a fast and successful recovery. We are so glad to see that you are doing exactly that. You are a true DeVaney (Every DeVaney I have met, has been very strong) :)

  2. Hey Bolognie: (Anthony and I have argued about how to spell that) You and your family have been in our prayers. You probably don't remember our ICU visit. Although, you did try to talk to us. The girls played great for you this past weekend. Aleesha plays with your picture in her shin guard and your name and number on her head band. Alyssa ran her butt off. They did it for you. And boy Coach B was mad. I'm sure you heard. I have pictures for you. Coach Thompson attempted to wear your jersy. OMG that was funny. I'll come see you this weekend. And give you a update on the game. We love and miss you! Stay tough. You are a incredible young lady. Ms.Juli

The first thing I did this morning was turn on the computer to check your blog and hopefully see you were doing better. AND YOU ARE...better every day! You are such an inspiration!

Not sure if you would remember me because its been such a long time. My sister Barbra and you used to play around the neighborhood when you were younger. When I heard about this my heart just broke. I am glad to hear you are doing better. I am praying for you. Keep your head up and keep fighting. You will get through this. Barbra asked me to tell you she said hello.

  5. Hey Girl! Glad to see your smiling face! I came by to see you last Saturday after watching the girls stomp Foley's butt, but you were out. I didn't get to tell you how proud I was of you or that I love ya, but I look forward to seeing you this Saturday and getting a hug! Not sure if Ty will able to come with me, but he says "HEY!" Just remember: "Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is your true strength." Honey, you have your TRUE STRENGTH! I love ya and see ya Saturday. Ms. Theresa

  8. This weekend while working at the soccer tournament, I numerous people from the out of town teams inquire on your condition. Several ask that I let you know, that you were in their prayers, and wished you a speedy recovery. They said that they knew you had to be a fighter... you're a soccer player!

Just know you have a lot of people praying on your behalf. Remember, if God leads you to it, He will lead you through it....He obviously has plans for you!!

  17. Hi toni its Joe, your favorite nurse!
I was glad to see that you went to surgery tonight. I felt so bad I coudn't be there when you got back to help your pain. You're such a great patient. I wish I could be your nurse every day. I actually like all my patients, but I see so much pain and bad stuff, that when a great kid like you comes along its hard to separate work from life. It's a risky thing getting close to patients in my field. If I got close to everyone, I would be a mess. Not just because sometimes the outcomes are bad, but because I deal with heavy emotions everyday.
But you have such a great spirit that its hard to put up that wall. You are the reason why I became a nurse and these are the moments I live for. To see something good come out of what we do, not everybody gets that chance. So like I've told you already, anything you need, day or night, you just let me know. And not just while you're in the hospital, while you're on this earth. You've made a friend.
    Here's my favorite quote,
"How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these."
