Good morning everyone,
It is a harder morning for Toni, she has been in a great deal of pain. They have her on a cocktail combination of pain killers/muscle relaxers that keep most of the pain at bay. Her spirts are good when the meds kick in, and her personality shines through in the midst of all of it. The Doctor said he was able to get the ankle reconstructed and plated with screws. It will be 8 - 12 weeks before any weight can be placed on it and that seems to be her biggest source of pain. She was scheduled for 2, they took her in at 4 and called us around six to say they had started about 45 minutes ago. She came out about 11:30 and had a restless night after, massive pain. Last night it was the arm hurting but that has subsided today and we have discovered the ankle. We expect her to be mostly in and out today but keep blogging, we read her everything. On the good side, we go to crutches &/or walker from here since the pins allow her to bear weight now.

Much love and please keep praying for her recovery,

Scott & Laurel

  5. Hi sweetheart,
We are so sorry you are having such a hard day. We will have you in our prayers and hope that it will all ease up very soon. Be patient and strong. My grandmother always told me that God never gives us more than we can handle. You are definitely the proof to that statement! Looks like you can handle just about anything that is thrown at you!!! WE LOVE YOU! If you are feeling a little better tomorrow we will come see you.
    LOTS OF LOVE & PRAYERS

  6. Hey Toni,
Its Olivia Murray! I know that you know exactly how i felt when i was injured and you know that i pulled through. I know that you will recover in no time. I also know how it feels to be bed rest for 8-10 weeks, thats what i had, but all you need to do is go rent you a wheelchair and get your mom or dad just to push you around. I would love to come see you, but when i was in the hospital i remember people coming to see me but i dont remember what they said or did. But when you come home i will come see you and push you around. Trust me it makes all the difference in the world just to get outside every now and then. but i know that you will pull through. all you have to do is stay strong and in your mind know that you will be just as strong again. i love you and miss you, and you are always in my prayers.

  10. Hi! I have been hearing about you from Chara's mom. I have broken many bones, plus I had a hideous bone infection as a result of one of the breaks. So, I've had my share of hosptial time and lots of operations. I'm full of pins and screws and old electronic healing devices.

What I want to say is: It's tough--you can't always be sweetness and light or tough when you are miserable. Make sure you get enuf pain meds. If you are in pain--tell them! Beg if you have to! Cry if you have to (and sometimes it's pretty easy!) I have thrown things a couple of times over the years when I can't get through to them.

Do you physical therapy--it's hard, but you will not regret it.

I am praying for you and your family. I got through everything, and you will, too! I didn't start breaking bones until I was 37--all from falls except for one car accident.

    You'll get through this!

    Sending healing wishes,

  12. Hello Toni!
I am sad to hear your ankle is hurting, but it is good news that they got it reconstructed! I wish my stupid car wasn't such a p.o.s. (am i aloud to say that?) so I could come see you! I should be getting it fixed this week. it has to have a complete tune up. by next week it hsould be running and I'm going to come stay the night with you. If you're alright with that, of course. I can bring a movie and any candy you like! maybe red sour patch kids? pretzels? or....subway? whatever you are craving. I PROMISE I am coming to see you.

    love you so much!

  13. Hi Toni.
Alright, I know you dont know me really but I still wanted to leave you a message.
My name is Cecelia Grass, Im a junior at GSHS.
When I heard about the accident, I was horrified to know that it was someone who went to our school. And as soon as I found out, I prayed for you. They hadnt even released names yet, but I was still praying.
I honestly cant even imagine the pain youve gone through and are still going through.
I'm glad to hear (and read) that things are going well. Channing White is in my 4th block class, and she has done a good job of keeping updates.
I promise to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Hope your recovery continues going well.
    Everyone loves you! ♥

    Best Regards,
    Cecelia.

  14. Hi Toni,
I am, like you a living miracle. I am praying for you & your parents, I know exactly what you are going through. My story comes from my mom's eyes. She & my dad were awakened with a knock at 3:00 on Sunday morning, and were told that I had been in an accident & was not expected to live. They were taken to UAB in a police car and got to me, a swollen unrecognizable child. I had a brain contusion,
my legs were crushed, my ribs & arms broken, my lungs punctured. My parents went to mass that morning and the prayers started. When they got back to me I had lapsed into a coma, where I stayed for 18 days, no surgery could be performed until I woke up. My mom's faith never wavered. My friends & family supported me as yours are you. Rely on them and allow them to help you as you heal. It is a great feeling when you realize that you are still here because God's plan for you is not completed yet. So 18 days later I awakened, no memory, I didn't even know my name, my mom, or my fiance. It was now time to rerconstruct my body, My first surgery on my legs was 13 hours. Then more surgeries, then it was time for rehab. My rehab was on the burn unit floor. The patients, & the counselors were a source of great inspiration. Many times you may feel like giving up. Look around you & you will be able to see your blessings. You ARE blessed & you CAN do it! S I am learning to talk, walk & am beginning to remeber things & people. I was released in time for Christmas, walking with crutches. I wasn't expected to live, walking was doubtful & by my Birthday 3 months later I was dancing! You will also be dancing right down the soccer field. keep up your strength, count your blessings (you can eat all you want!)
and allow God & your doctor, nurses & parents help you through this. Oh, I am Carlin Grooms' mom & you are in our prayers every day! God Bless You & your parents!

  15. Good morning Toni,
We are really hoping you feel much better this morning. Tomorrow is Turner's birthday and I think the best present would be to see you. So we have our fingers CROSSED! He said he told you last night we would come today. If you are not up to it just send him a text and we will put it off a few days. I will keep checking for an update.
    Lots of love,
    Lundy
